Here at my corporate day job they have a thing called “Food on 7.” That means that when a big meeting happens here at the office in one of the conference rooms on the first floor, the extra food is brought up to the break room which is on the 7th floor.
An email goes out that says “food on 7.” As soon as the email is read flocks of assistants rush to the elevator like hungry, angry packs of vultures to feed on the carcasses. Some of the assistants even break out the Tuperware!
It is like Food on 7 is an Olympic sport. I ventured down to 7 yesterday a little bit later than when the email came out only to find a lot of the higher price food items already gone. You gotta be quick. I just wanted to grab a few wraps for my husband. At the elevator I’m met by this assistant I work with. Here is our conversation:
Co-worker – “Is that all you’re having?”
Me – (Staring at my two chicken wraps) – “Oh this isn’t for me, this is for my husband. I’m on an anti inflammation diet to help my Lupus.”
Co-Worker – “Oh I’m on the two day diet. I eat 500 calories two days a week and the rest of the days I eat what I want.”
Me – “I don’t see how that would work.”
So I went up to my desk and looked up said Two Day Diet because I didn’t believe it could actually be true…It is true but not the way my co-worker said. You can’t just eat pizza and ice cream for 5 days then the other two days starve yourself.
The Two Day Diet comes from a research dietician named Michelle Harvie from England. Wouldn’t you know it she has a book to go along with this ridiculous diet because let’s face it, this diet is not about health it’s about making money!
Her biggest selling point is that you only have to be on a diet for two days! Women hear this and think they’re golden! I finally found the magic answer. Don’t be fooled. You’re dieting for 7 days, just two of those days you’re starving yourself! Eating 500 calories a day for two days is beyond unhealthy. Your body goes into starvation mode then you ramp up and eat regularly thus causing havoc to your metabolism.
The diet you’re on for the remaining 5 days is a Mediterranean diet. So you’re dieting, eating a low carb/high protein diet with lots of vegetables. So essentially you’re on a Paleo diet mixed with two days of starvation. Let’s call a spade a spade.
I think you will probably lose weight doing this regimen but at your metabolism’s expense. The only time I ate under 500 calories was when I was anorexic.
Don’t be fooled, it’s another scam by the dieting industry. We need to love ourselves and work on our insides and stop giving our money to these ridiculous fad diets. Instead of a “Two Day” diet why don’t you try a seven day NO DIET of just eating healthy and exercising.
