Last week Amy Schumer called out Hollywood’s screwed up standards when it comes to women’s bodies and looks.
Not only is Amy happy with her weight but she can “catch dick anytime” no matter what her weight is. God bless her and I’m happy that dicks are being thrown her way. I will say it is rare. I’m a female comedian and whenever I do a show, afterwards, there are tons of chicks throwing their vaginas at the male comedian’s but never any dicks thrown to us ladies.
I think Amy is funny and I’m a big supporter of fellow female comedians and I also commend her on her healthy body image. She claims to weight 160 pounds and that is a good and healthy weight for a woman of her size but most people would think that number is on the heavy side. And the media and the public is giving her flack about her weight.
Male comedians don’t get flack for being heavy but female comics always do. Male comedians also don’t get flack about doing jokes about sex while female comedians are ridiculed for it. We’re held to a different standard which is un fair. Comedy is not a level playing field. I’ve worked on many a sitcom and there have been maybe one or two female writers on staff. I tried my hardest to work my way up but saw my male counter parts get the jobs that I was always passed over for.
My friend and fellow comic, Felicia Michaels wrote together a great pilot script about female comedians in the 70’s trailblazing their way and the script got pretty far but ultimately it didn’t sell. Had the script been from some male comedy writers it might have fared better. In my opinion we still have a ways to go in terms of bias against women in comedy as well as changing Hollywood’s views of women and weight.
The Self Worth Diet commends you, Amy Schumer, for talking about weight and having self worth no matter what the scale reads.
